Collaboration and Transparency: Valuing teamwork and open communication.
Growth Mindset: Encouraging innovation and continuous improvement.
Creating Lasting Impact: Focusing on meaningful outcomes and positive change.
About the role:
We are seeking a mid-level Graphic Designer to support a federal health client focused on improving public-facing digital communications. This role will support visual and graphic design needs at a 50% allocation, with potential to expand to full-time pending additional contract awards.
The work emphasizes clear, accessible, brand-compliant visual communication rather than highly conceptual or marketing-driven design. You will contribute to website graphics, icons, simple infographics, and other digital artifacts that support public understanding of complex policy and program information.
This is a full-time position contingent on contract award by our client, with a defined performance period of one year with two one-year option periods. This role offers you a unique opportunity to make a meaningful impact on a project that aligns with Bixal’s mission of delivering innovative, human-centered solutions. While the role has a fixed duration, we are committed to transparency and collaboration, keeping you informed about contract updates and new opportunities. At Bixal, we support your professional journey, ensuring your experience reflects our inclusive, purpose-driven culture and prepares you for future success. This is a collaborative, cross-functional environment working alongside project management and content specialists. Deliverables must align with federal brand standards, U.S. Web Design System (USWDS) patterns where applicable, and Section 508 / WCAG 2.1 AA accessibility requirements.
Compensation:
The salary range for this role is $78,000 – $82,000 annually, prorated based on level of effort (LOE). We expect that the initial LOE will be 50%, and it will potentially increase to 100% within 2-4 months, based on pending contract awards. In the spirit of transparency, most offers tend to land near the midpoint of the range. We make compensation decisions thoughtfully, considering your experience, the skills you bring, and our commitment to internal equity. Fairness and transparency are core to how we operate.
Responsibilities:
Design clean, accessible graphics for federal web properties and digital communications.
Create simple iconography and infographics that translate complex information into clear visual formats.
Ensure all visual assets comply with brand guidelines, accessibility standards, and federal digital requirements.
Apply visual hierarchy and typographic discipline to enhance clarity and usability.
Prepare production-ready files and assets for web implementation (e.g., optimized SVGs).
Organize working files using consistent naming conventions and logical folder structures to support team collaboration and long-term maintenance.
Collaborate with content specialists and client stakeholders to ensure designs are feasible, compliant, and user-centered.
Participate in design reviews and incorporate stakeholder feedback in a structured and professional manner.
Balance priorities across two engagements while maintaining quality and timeliness.
Other relevant duties as assigned and qualified/trained to perform
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in graphic design, illustration, or equivalent experience preferred.
Portfolio of work demonstrating expertise in the responsibilities and requirements listed in this job description.
3+ years of professional graphic design experience in digital environments.
Demonstrated experience designing within established brand systems or design systems.
Experience creating simple, scalable iconography and straightforward infographics (not complex data visualization).
Strong understanding of visual hierarchy, typography, layout, and color theory.
Working knowledge of accessibility standards, including WCAG 2.1 AA and Section 508 requirements.
Experience using professional design tools such as Figma and Adobe Creative Cloud (Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop).
Ability to test and validate color contrast and ensure accessible document structure.
Experience preparing web-ready assets (e.g., SVG optimization, image compression, export standards).
Strong organizational skills in file management, version control, and asset naming conventions.
Clear communication skills and comfort working in structured, compliance-driven environments.
Must be able to pass and maintain a Public Trust security clearance.
Nice to Have Skills and Experience:
Experience supporting federal government or other regulated environments.
Familiarity with the U.S. Web Design System (USWDS).
Experience working in Agile or iterative delivery environments.
Experience working with content management systems (e.g., Drupal).
Prior experience managing workload across multiple concurrent projects.
