About the role:
We are seeking an experienced Senior Strategic Communications Manager-Social Media to lead the development and execution of a comprehensive social media strategy for CDC and its public-facing channels. This role will shape how CDC leverages social platforms to communicate critical public health information, engage diverse audiences, and build trust during both routine outreach and public health emergencies.
You will combine deep social media expertise with strong analytical skills and the ability to integrate AI-driven tools, data insights, and content strategies to drive engagement, consistency, and growth across CDC’s social ecosystem.
This is a full-time position contingent on contract award by our client, with a defined performance period of one year with two one-year option periods. This role offers you a unique opportunity to make a meaningful impact on a project that aligns with Bixal’s mission of delivering innovative, human-centered solutions. Compensation:
The salary range for this role is $130,000 – $145,000. In the spirit of transparency, most offers tend to land near the midpoint of the range. We make compensation decisions thoughtfully, considering your experience, the skills you bring, and our commitment to internal equity. Fairness and transparency are core to how we operate.
Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement a data-driven social media strategy aligned with CDC’s public health priorities and digital modernization goals.
- Lead content planning, publishing strategies, and audience engagement approaches across platforms.
- Utilize AI-powered analytics, listening, and sentiment analysis tools to monitor public discourse, emerging trends, and real-time feedback.
- Track and analyze engagement metrics, campaign performance, and follower growth to inform continuous improvement and evidence-based decision-making.
- Partner with content creators, UX designers, and technical leads to ensure consistent voice, tone, and user experience across channels.
- Identify and implement innovative content approaches, including data visualizations, short-form video, real-time messaging, and interactive formats.
- Establish governance frameworks, publishing standards, and response protocols to ensure accuracy, timeliness, and brand integrity.
- Provide guidance and training to internal teams on social media best practices, analytics interpretation, and emerging trends.
- Attend meetings and work from the CDC office in Atlanta, GA at least 10%.
- Other relevant duties and responsibilities as assigned, trained, and qualified to perform
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree, plus at least 10 years of experience leading social media strategy for large or complex organizations, ideally in public health, government, or science communication environments.
- Demonstrated expertise with social listening, analytics, and publishing platforms
- Experience using AI-enabled content and engagement tools.
- Demonstrated ability to design and execute multi-channel campaigns, grow audiences, and drive measurable engagement outcomes.
- Strong experience collaborating with creative, UX, and technical teams to align social strategy with broader digital initiatives.
- Exceptional writing, storytelling, and presentation skills; ability to translate complex information into accessible and compelling content.
- Experience managing social media during high-visibility or emergency situations is highly desirable.
- Ability to foster innovation, process improvement, and efficiency within complex program structures.
- Collaborative mindset with the ability to build strong partnerships across diverse stakeholders.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust clearance
Nice to Have Skills and Experience:
- Familiarity with federal communication standards and digital accessibility best practices.
